After a project that took many, many years to create, we’re thrilled to announce that The Hockey Film is now publicly released.
Featuring everyday people.
The Hockey Film is a documentary by Canadian filmmaker, Christopher Aylward. The film introduces you to a number of hockey-loving people from Canada, all the way to New Zealand. It asks the question, why. Why do we play this sport? Why are so many, so passionate about the game? What drives this passion? The film looks to share stories from the perspective of people like you. From ones that are relatable, to stories with unique backgrounds, and others that put the global scale of the game, more closely to home.
The Hockey Film wasn’t created without its challenges. We had setbacks of all types. Weather-related, time constraints, logistical and even personal challenges that temporarily halted production. The film had to abandon a number of planned shoots and segments over the years, but it kept inching forward.
In mid 2019, we released our ‘Official Trailer’ (opens in new tab), with a plan to wrap up production over the summer and complete post-production early in 2020. However, the global pandemic stopped not only production plans, it stopped the world. The film would remain in a paused state while the filmmaker worked behind the scenes to look into the feasibility of travelling to complete the final two segments of the film. Alas, it wasn’t meant to be, and the film took a final turn to completion in 2022 and began a revised script re-write and narration.
In late 2022, production was complete, and by early 2023, The Hockey Film exited post-production and was packaged for submitting to various film festivals across Canada and the United States.
With the film festival process now complete, the documentary embarks on its public release, and we couldn’t be more excited to put this out to the world.
